Soto Sensei would like to make a few announcements regarding class structure and curriculum changes for the new year.
1. The Tues and Wed classes will go back to being 80mins Taijutsu and 40mins Biken - Jutsu (weapons) with a different weapon every week.
Weapon training is more than just learning about an "exotic ninja weapon". It's about flow, finesse, body movement, hand/eye co-ordination and awareness.
2. Soto Sensei will now include basic Friday's style of Ninjutsu "Juitsu Kai Ninpo Taijutsu" into the everyday class (Tue, Wed, Sun). However this will still only be the basics of this art. The deadly secret stuff will still only be taught on Fridays and fridays will become a blackbelt only class. (current friday students can still attend this class, so long as they make an effort to attend regularly and show the correct attitude and commitment)
From there, friday class will be split again at a later date, as people climb the Dan ranks into an even more selective class were the super deadly/secret techniques will be taught. This will be reserved for the students who possess the right attitude, commitment, respect and loyalty to the Dojo.
Juitsu Kai means "A Gathering of Masters". Soto Sensei will explore the meaning of this indepth during class, through the new year. Juitsu Kai is a traditional Ninjutsu Ryu-ha passed through the family lineage. Traditionally it is not taught outside of the family and certainly not taught outside of Japan.
To the best of of our knowledge Soto Sensei is the only Non-family member to be taught this art. Please honor the teachings of this "TRUE" Ninjutsu Ryu-ha and show it the respect it deserves.
Last Night a few students begun training in Juitsu Kai. They quickly saw the difference in flow, the speed of the techniques and the danger of them.
When you begin training in this style you also will see how different it is to the other styles that you are used to and how easy it is to cause serious damage to an attacker.
3. Every 6months Soto Sensei will introduce a new "theme"
The first theme will be "Honor and respect: Code of the Ninja".
As discussed elsewhere on this forum, respect to the Dojo and each other is expected. This is a dangerous art of self Defense and without proper respect and frame of mind, accidents will occur.
Remember:
Turn up on time.
Bow when entering and leaving the Dojo (this is the door near the vending machine
Bow when entering and leaving the Mats (these are the blue things on the floor)
When Soto Sensei is demonstrating technique in the class everyone is to sit in seiza
When he has finished demonstrating the technique Bow from sieza and yell "Hai" in unison
When Soto Sensei asks you to enter the demonstration area as either Uke or Tori, please bow, enter the middle, bow to each other.
Once technique is finished bow to each other and exit.
When facing off to practice, bow to your Uke both at the beginning and at the end.
The next Theme may be something like: History and Tradition of the Ninja, or Himitsu Jutsu Or Taihen Jutsu or spiritualism of the Ninja/Samurai etc.
